Jimmies rally for shootout win over Midland

The 6th-ranked University of Jamestown men's hockey team rallied from a two-goal deficit late in the third period to take a 3-2 win over Midland (Neb.) University Saturday evening at John L. Wilson Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Midland led 2-0 after a first-period goal by Tommy Wardas and a third-period goal by Zach Weber.
  • Jamestown had a 43-16 edge in shots after two periods, but was held off the scoreboard until the 18:30 mark of the third.
  • Logan Berggren's sixth goal of the season came on the power play and cut the Warriors' lead to 2-1 with 90 seconds left. Nathan Driver assisted on the goal.
  • With an extra attacker in place of goaltender Brandon Weare, Jamestown tied the game 15 seconds later as Berggreen notched his second goal. Brad Fortin got credit for the assist.
  • Neither team scored in overtime as shots were even at six each.
  • The Jimmies went first in the shootout. Both teams were unsuccessful on their opening attempt, but Brad Fortin went top shelf on Midland goaltender Liam Tereposky to give UJ a 1-0 lead in the shootout.
  • Andrew Larsen was Midland's last chance to extend the shootout to another round, but he was denied by Weare and the Jimmies took the win.

FOR THE JIMMIES

  • Shots were 68-29 in favor of Jamestown.
  • The Jimmies were 1-for-6 on the power play while Midland was 0-for-7.
  • Weare made 27 saves in the win.
