Jimmies open weekend series with shutout of Midland

Brad Fortin scored twice and Reid Wilson added a goal and two assists as the 6th-ranked University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team defeated Midland (Neb.) University Friday evening 6-0 at John L. Wilson Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • It didn't take long for the Jimmies to get on the scoreboard Friday. After Ryan Donovan was called for boarding just 36 seconds into the game, Jordon Kromm capitalized with the man advantage 29 seconds later, taking passes from Carter Johnson and Nathan Driver to score his eighth of the season and fourth on the power play.
  • Zane MacDonald made it 2-0 Jamestown at 19:32 of the first, assisted by Keaton Cline.
  • Logan Berggren picked up the Jimmies' second power-play goal of the night, as UJ took a 3-0 lead at 5:54 of the second. Matthew Poole and Alek Erichuk got the assists.
  • Fortin scored 61 seconds later as UJ went up 4-0 on assists by Kole Christensson and Wilson.
  • Wilson opened the scoring in the third period with his seventh of the year, set up by Erichuk and Poole at 1:46.
  • Fortin's 12th of the year and second of the game finished off the Jamestown scoring at 4:50 of the third. Wilson and Wyatt Johnson got the assists.

FOR THE JIMMIES

  • Brandon Weare stopped all 27 shots he faced in recording his ACHA-leading seventh shutout of the season.
  • Fortin had his third multiple-goal game of the year and now has points in nine of his last 10 games.
  • Wilson recorded his fourth game with two or more assists.
