Jimmies' eight-run seventh secures split with NWC

ORANGE CITY, Iowa-- The Jimmie baseball team scored eight runs in the top of the seventh for a 10-5 victory Monday afternoon to split a pair of games against Northwestern College.

Game 1:
The Red Raiders used a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth to take Monday's opener 4-3.

Troy Berg scored on an error in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 1-1, then the teams traded runs again in the sixth before Jamestown retook the lead on an RBI double by Xander Orejudos in the top of the seventh.

Hayden Brown led off the sixth with a solo home run for the Jimmies, who were held to four hits. Kendall Yackley had a single to start the third and Chase Burke singled in the ninth for the other Jamestown hits.

Game 2:
Five hits, two walks, and two errors in the seventh inning helped the Jimmies push eight runs across the plate, completing a comeback from being down 5-1 after the fifth.

Chase Burke reached on an error with one out and Isaiah Roebuck followed with a walk. Kendall Yackley singled to score Burke, then Xander Orejudos hit a three-run home run to give UJ a 6-5 lead. A walk to Triston Madison led to a NWC pitching change, and Jordan Singleton greeted the new reliever with a two-run homer to left center. The Jimmies added a pair of unearned runs later in the inning to finish out the scoring.

Trei Hough (2-3) came on in relief in the fourth and worked 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to get the win. Orejudos and Singleton each went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs. Madison's first-inning home run gave UJ a 1-0 lead.
