Jimmies downed by Doane on Saturday

ORANGE CITY, Iowa-- The Jimmie baseball team wrapped up its weekend series against Doane (Neb.) University Saturday afternoon, with the Tigers winning 12-2 in the opener and 11-6 in game two.

The Tigers hit four home runs in game one, including three two-run shots by Joe Osborn.

Ben Patton gave UJ a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a double that scored Hayden Brown. Doane took the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the third, and one more in the fourth.

Kendall Yackley's sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the fourth cut the Tigers' lead to 3-2, then Doane broke the game open with a six-spot in the fifth before adding three more in the sixth.

Alex Tolbert and Ben Patton both had a pair of hits for UJ.

A solo home run by Xander Orejudos and a two-run double from Triston Madison had Jamestown ahead 3-2 after two innings in Saturday's second game. Doane retook the lead after scoring four runs in the top of the fourth to make it 6-3. Orejudos cut into the Tiger lead with a sacrifice fly in the fourth, but Doane tacked on two more runs in the sixth. Yackley drove in a run in the sixth and Troy Berg homered in the eighth to round out the Jamestown scoring.

Berg and Madsion each went 2-for-3 to lead the Jimmies.

Jamestown, now 17-15 overall and 6-8 in the GPAC, is scheduled to host Dordt (Iowa) University for doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.
