Jimmies have win streak halted against Doane

ORANGE CITY, Iowa-- The Jimmie baseball team had its six-game winning streak snapped Friday afternoon with a pair of losses to Doane (Neb.) University. The Tigers took the opener 14-7 and finished off the sweep with an 18-1 win.

The two teams will finish their weekend series with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. The games were originally scheduled to be played in Jamestown but moved to Orange City due to weather.

UJ had a 4-3 lead in game one when Doane broke through for six runs in the top of the fourth to take a 9-4 advantage. The Tigers finished the game with 11 runs over the final four innings in the 14-7 win.

Jordan Singleton drove in the Jimmies' first run in the bottom of the first, and Kendall Yackley launched a three-run home run in the second to give Jamestown a one-run lead.

Hayden Brown and Alex Alva drove in runs for the Jimmies in the fifth, and Troy Berg singled in UJ's final run in the seventh.

Singleton and Triston Madison both had two hits to lead the offense.

In game two, Doane led 3-0 going into the bottom of the second, and Singleton led off the inning for UJ with a home run to make it 3-1. However, that would be the only run for the Jimmies for the rest of the game. The Tigers plated the final 15 runs while holding Jamestown to three hits over the final five innings.

Singleton finished 2-for-3 while Xander Orejudos and Ben Patton also had hits.
