Jimmies rally twice in DH sweep of Chargers

SIOUX CITY, Iowa-- The Jimmie baseball team posted another GPAC sweep on Sunday, defeating Briar Cliff University 4-3 and 7-1.

Jamestown (17-11, 6-4 GPAC) was the home team on the scoreboard, as the games were originally scheduled to be played at Jack Brown Stadium, but moved to Sioux City due to weather.

UJ came back from a 3-0 deficit in its final two at-bats, defeating BCU 4-3 in Sunday's opener. A pair of Charger errors in the bottom of the seventh contributed to the winning run. Kendall Yackley led off the inning by reaching on an error by the third baseman and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. With two outs, pinch-hitter Ryan Muizelaar reached on an error by the shortstop, and Yackley came home on the play.

Hayden Brown, Chase Burke, and Payton Smith each drove in a run to help the Jimmies tie the game with a three-run sixth. Three of UJ's four hits came in the sixth after Alex Tolbert delivered a pinch-hit single in the fourth for Jamestown's first hit.

Brown struck out all three hitters he faced in the top of the seventh and was credited with the win.

Jordan Singleton's eighth-inning grand slam was part of a six-run frame that lifted Jamestown to a 7-1 victory in game two.

Xander Orejudos gave UJ a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out single, but BCU tied the game in the next half inning.

Yackley, Orejudos, and Triston Madison all reached to begin the bottom of the eighth, and Singleton homered to right to clear the bases and make it 5-1. A wild pitch and sacrifice fly accounted for the other two Jimmie runs later in the inning.

Cade Torgerson (2-0) struck out four over the final three innings to get the win. Brown ended 3-for-4 at the plate while Yackley and Orejudos both went 2-for-4.
