Jimmies split with OUAZ to finish Tucson Invitational Games

TUCSON, Ariz.-- The Jimime baseball team split a doubleheader against Ottawa University-Arizona on Friday to wrap up the Tucson Invitational Games.

OUAZ took a 5-4 win in eight innings in the opener, then UJ responded with a 6-2 win in the nightcap. Jamestown is now 11-7 overall and will travel to Seward, Neb., for a doubleheader against Concordia University on Saturday.

UJ trailed 4-2 going into the sixth in the first game against OUAZ but rallied to tie with a pair of runs. In the eighth, the Jimmies took the lead on an RBI double by Hayden Brown, then had OUAZ win it with two in the bottom half.

Xander Orejudos went 2-for-3 and four other players had one hit.

Orejudos and Chase Burke had run-scoring hits in the fifth to help Jamestown open up a 4-0 lead. OUAZ cut the deficit in half with two in the sixth, but Reece McKenzie and Kendall Yackley helped UJ get those runs back in the bottom half.

Jordan Singleton and Orejudos both were 2-for-3 at the plate. Payson Mills struck out four over 5 2/3 innings to get the win, and Hayden Brown pitched a scoreless seventh for the save.
