Jimmies defeat No. 16 Arizona Christian and Park-Gilbert

TUCSON, Ariz.-- The Jimmie baseball team made it three wins in their last four outings at the Tucson Invitational Games, defeating No. 16 Arizona Christian 4-3 and Park University-Gilbert 10-5.

Jamestown (10-6) plays its final two games in Tucson Friday with a doubleheader against Ottawa University-Arizona.

UJ had a 3-1 lead against Arizona Christian after four innings, but the Firestorm scored single runs in the seventh and eighth to tie the game.

Troy Berg delivered a two-out single to bring in Alex Alva with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth, and Kendall Yackley pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record the save. Making his first start of the season for UJ was Elias Harris, who went five innings and gave up one run on three hits while striking out six, although he did not factor in the decision. Eric Kessler, the third of four Jimmie hurlers, got credit for the win.

Jordan Singleton was 3-for-3 at the plate while Berg, Yackley, and Triston Madison all had two hits apiece. Payton Smith and Chase Burke both drove in runs for UJ in the second inning, and Smith extended the Jimmie lead in the fourth with another RBI.

Jamestown recorded another victory with Wednesday's 10-5 win against Park University-Gilbert.

Alex Alva's two-run triple in the bottom of the fourth broke a 4-4 deadlock, then Chase Burke and Triston Madison added to the lead with RBI singles. Park-Gilbert got within 8-6 after adding a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, but the Jimmies countered with two of their own in the seventh.

Chase Burke went 4-for-5 and scored four runs from the leadoff spot. Madison, Jordan Singleton, and Xander Orejudos each were 3-for-4 while Alva had his first two-hit game of the season.

Trei Hough (1-2) pitched four innings and struck out eight to get the win. Three Jimmie relievers combined to pitch the final five innings and fanned seven hitters while allowing five hits.
