Jimmies use eight-run inning for win over Adams State

TUCSON, Ariz.-- The Jimmie baseball team scored eight times in the bottom of the third inning Sunday afternoon, defeating Adams State (Colo.) University 12-7 at the Tucson Invitational Games.

Payton Smith, Chase Burke, Xander Orejudos, Triston Madison, Hayden Brown, and Kendall Yackley all drove in runs for UJ, who sent 14 batters to the plate.

Adamcut s State got right back in the game during their next time at bat. The Grizzlies plated five runs to get with 8-6.

Orejudos and Jordan Singleton had RBIs in the fifth to make it a 10-6 game, and the score remained that way until Adams State pushed home a run in the eighth.

Singleton and Brown each hit solo home runs to help pad Jamestown's lead going into the ninth. Eric Kessler, who got the final out of the eighth, retired the side in order in the ninth to record the save. Cade Torgerson (1-0), the second of three Jimmie relievers, was credited with the win.

Burke and Brown both went 3-for-4 at the plate. Orejudos was 2-for-4 with three RBI while Madison, Singleton, and Smith also had two hits.

Sunday's second game saw the Jimmies take on GPAC rival Morningside (Iowa). A five-run first put UJ in an early hole, and the Mustangs came away with a 10-7 victory

After falling behind 8-1, Jamestown got back in the game in the fifth inning, scoring four times. Triston Madison drove in two with a single, and a double by Ryan Muizelaar and single by Jordan Singleton each brought in runs to make it 8-5.

Muizelaar's two-run single in the sixth made it a one-run game, but Morningside extended their lead with a pair of runs in the eighth.

Madison was 3-for-5 batting and Muizelaar was 2-for-3 as the Jimmies finished with seven hits total.

Jamestown (8-6) continues the Arizona trip with a single game against Arizona Christian University on Tuesday, beginning at 6 p.m. Central.
