O'FALLON, Ill..-- The 12th-ranked University of Jamestown women's hockey team rebounded from a 6-2 loss against No. 2 Midland (Neb.) on Friday, defeating fourth-ranked McKendree University 2-1 Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • McKendree scored first as Aria Groot made it 1-0 at the 16:12 mark of the first period with a power play goal.
  • Samantha Beaulac notched the equalizer with a power play goal of her own, coming at 15:49 of the second. Bethany Wielgosh got the assist.
  • The score remained 1-1 until the third period as Jayden Baker's unassisted goal put the Jimmies in front with 9:59 remaining.
  • The Bearcats went on the power play with 29 seconds left, and pulled goaltender Rachel Staresinic for a 6-on-4 advantage in hopes of scoring the tying goal.
  • Jamestown successfully killed off its sixth penalty of the game to hold on for the win.
  • Makenzie Gibson recorded 33 saves in goal for UJ.
