Jimmies snap six-game skid with win over Lake Region State

The Jimmie women's ACHA Division 1 hockey team snapped a six-game losing skid with a  5-1 victory over Division 2 Lake Region State College Saturday evening at John L. Wilson Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first-year Royals, who dressed just nine skaters along with goaltender Abagail Stewart-Fromm, held their own against the Jimmies in the first period, trailing just 1-0 while holding a narrow 7-6 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Jayden Baker's sixth goal of the season came at 6:43 of the first, with Gaby Schroder earning her first of four assists on the evening.
  • A three-goal barrage in the second period, beginning with Jaeda Clayton's shorthanded goal at 5:13, gave UJ a 4-0 lead. Schroder assisted on her second of the game.
  • Crystal Wale (7:33) and Annika Braun (8:01) completed the Jamestown scoring as the home team tallied three times in a span of two minutes and 48 seconds. Wale's goal was unassisted while Alyssa Lingen and Schroder got the helpers on Braun's score.
  • Morgan Settee got the Royals on the board with her first goal of the year at 6:10 of the third to make it 4-1.
  • Braun's second of the game, assisted by Lingen and Schroder, put the Jimmies back in front by four goals at 11:30 of the third.
  • Jamestown outshot Lake Region 39-22 for the game, including 33-15 over the final two periods.
  • Lilah Drew started in goal and stopped all 10 shots she faced before Makenzie Gibson came on with 10:44 remaining in the second period. Gibson finished the game between the pipes and made 11 saves on 12 shots.

  • Jamestown travels to O'Fallon, Ill., for three games beginning Thursday at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex. UJ faces Lindenwood (Mo.) at 9:20 p.m. Thursday, then takes on Midland (Neb.) Friday at 11:30 a.m., and McKendree Saturday at 3:15 p.m.
