SIOUX CENTER, Iowa— The University of Jamestown men's soccer team came up just short against Dordt University Saturday evening,  dropping their first match of the season 4-3 at Defender Soccer Complex.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Goals in the 16th and 24th minutes put the Defenders ahead 2-0 in the first half.
  • Jamestown got on the board in the 41st minute after Jake Simson converted a penalty kick for his fourth goal of the season.
  • Dordt again went ahead by two goals on a 51st minute strike by Tyson Reitsma.
  • In the 54th minute, Oscar Salgado drilled a free kick from 25 yards out into the top right corner of the net for his second goal of the year, making it a 3-2 game.
  • Marco Laeenen, who notched Dordt's goal in the 24th minute, tallied his second of the match in the 64th as the lead grew to 4-2.
  • Just under 14 minutes from time, a header by Ben Brake cut the deficit to 4-3, but the Jimmies were unable to find the equalizer in the final moments.

FOR THE JIMMIES

  • Charlie Clark finished with three saves.
  • The Jimmies had a 16-10 shot advantage, including an 11-9 edge in shots on goal.
  • Mathias Varlet had four of UJ's shots on goal.

FOR THE DEFENDERS

  • Laenen scored twice and Jacob Narkis had a goal and and assist.
  • Mitchell Dryden made seven saves in goal.
